Outspoken: Scarlett Johansson graced the cover of Vogue, talking about her divorce with Ryan Reynolds and her new relationship with Nate Naylor

Scarlett Johansson finally opens up about her unlikely relationship with Sean Penn and divorce from Ryan Reynolds

She tries to keep relatively quiet about her private life.
But in a candid interview, Scarlett Johansson has finally opened up about her unlikely relationship with actor Sean Penn last year, who was 24 years her senior.

She also shared her pain over her divorce with Hollywood hunk Ryan Reynolds, and her new man, advertising executive Nate Naylor.

As she graced the cover of Vogue, the 27-year-old said of Sean, 51: 'We spent time together, yeah. I never put a title on it, really, but we were seeing each other.
'He’s a remarkable person. He really is.'

Scarlett said there was intense fuss over the relationship which 'was a little bit of an adjustment' as she endured relative privacy while married to Ryan for two years from September 2008.
'We always kept our story private—how we met, our wedding, everything. It was about us.'
She said that in the summer of 2010 she took a road trip around Europe with Ryan, after he'd filmed Green Lantern, which started the downfall of their marriage.

Scarlett had just finished filming Iron man 2 alongside Robert Downey, Jr. and knew The Avengers was coming later, but she said she took a long time hunting for her next film.

Past loves: Scarlett, 27, with her ex-boyfriend Sean Penn, 51, last year, and her ex-husband, actor Ryan Reynolds in 2007

'It was nice, but at the same time, I was like "What am I going to do with myself?" I don’t know. I was waiting. [It was] a hard time . . . I was feeling very out of my own skin.
'[The divorce] was horrible. Of course it’s horrible. It was devastating. It really throws you. You think that your life is going to be one way, and then, for various reasons or whatever, it doesn’t work out.

'This was something I never thought I would be doing. And there’s no way to navigate it. Nobody can give you the right answer. It’s never anything you want to hear. It’s a very lonely thing. It’s like the loneliest thing you’ll ever do, in some way.'

But she said she had no regrets about the marriage.

'It was a beautiful thing. The falling in love and getting married and making that commitment.. I think it’s nice to know that you’re capable of loving somebody in that way. I think it’s a rare opportunity.
'I don’t feel on the other side of it completely, but it gets better,” she says. “It’s still there. More than anything, it’s just that not having your buddy around all the time is weird. There’s no rule book. I think it’s just time.'
