She told the UK edition of InStyle magazine: 'As a woman, you feel that you shouldn’t want to better yourself against others.

'Ambition has become such an ugly word, hasn’t it? But when you look up the definition, ambition is to achieve distinction in your chosen field and most of us would own up to that, wouldn’t we?

She met the acclaimed director on the set of his 2005 adaptation of Pride & Prejudice and the pair were due to marry in the summer of 2008.
But just weeks before the wedding he walked out on her and the couple have not seen each other since.
