Rosamund Pike has warned.The 32-year-old former Bond girl said that they need to push themselves to excel rather than holding back because they fear what people will think about them.

She told the UK edition of InStyle magazine: 'As a woman, you feel that you shouldn’t want to better yourself against others.

'Ambition has become such an ugly word, hasn’t it? But when you look up the definition, ambition is to achieve distinction in your chosen field and most of us would own up to that, wouldn’t we?

'So, I’ve just decided to be a little bit less frightened and a bit less "Please like me and please give me a job" and a bit more "this is my opinion and this is what I want to do".'

The Oxford-educated beauty made her name starring alongside Pierce Brosnan in Die Another Day.

Since then she has played 'quintessential English rose type roles' appearing in British hits An Education and Made In Dagenham.

Miss Pike also spoke for the first time at her heartbreak after being dumped a month before her wedding by former fiancé Joe Wright.

She met the acclaimed director on the set of his 2005 adaptation of Pride & Prejudice and the pair were due to marry in the summer of 2008.

But just weeks before the wedding he walked out on her and the couple have not seen each other since.
