Amanda Abbington's Fury Over BBC's Handling of Giovanni Pernice Bullying Probe

Amanda Abbington's Fury Over BBC's Handling of Giovanni Pernice Bullying Probe

The BBC's investigation into bullying allegations against Strictly Come Dancing professional Giovanni Pernice has reached its conclusion, but the fallout continues to reverberate. Amanda Abbington, a former contestant on the show, has expressed her deep disappointment with the BBC's handling of the probe, fearing a potential "whitewash."

A friend of Abbington revealed that she feels the BBC is protecting Pernice to save face and ignoring the experiences of not only herself but also other women who have come forward with similar allegations. Abbington's frustration stems from the length of the investigation and the perceived lack of transparency.

The source revealed that during the inquiry, Abbington was questioned again about an explicit video that Pernice had shared with her. While investigators initially expressed full belief in her account, Abbington now feels as if there is doubt surrounding her claims.

The BBC hopes to announce the findings of the investigation before the new series of Strictly Come Dancing kicks off. However, there is a growing fear within the corporation that the report could open the floodgates for further allegations.

The insider added, "The BBC are bracing themselves for the possibility that, whatever they announce, their findings could be challenged and appealed, not just by Amanda. They are also preparing themselves for the possibility that former contestants and staffers could complain."

Abbington, who quit Strictly last October after being diagnosed with PTSD, is being advised by lawyers with a view to lodging a claim for loss of earnings. Her allegations against Pernice include a bruised foot sustained during rehearsals, lewd comments made by Pernice, and a phone being thrown across the room.

Other women who have come forward with similar experiences include TV presenter Laura Whitmore, who danced with Pernice in 2016, and Good Morning Britain host Ranvir Singh. Both women have revealed that they complained to the BBC about Pernice's inappropriate behavior.

Pernice, who denies any wrongdoing, has recently announced his departure from Strictly Come Dancing and his new role on the Italian version of the show, Ballando con le Stelle.

The BBC declined to comment on the probe, but the ongoing controversy raises questions about the corporation's commitment to addressing bullying and harassment within its ranks. As the findings of the investigation are expected to be released soon, the public will be watching closely to see how the BBC handles this sensitive matter.
