Nicola Sturgeon ARRESTED in relation to investigation into SNP finances

Nicola Sturgeon, the former First Minister of Scotland, has been arrested in connection with the ongoing investigation into the funding and finances of the Scottish National Party (SNP). She was taken into custody as a suspect and questioned by detectives after attending a police interview by arrangement on Sunday.

Her husband, ex-SNP chief executive Peter Murrell, was arrested and released without charge in April. The arrest was expected, with Sturgeon having consistently said she would cooperate with the investigation.

The SNP has been subject to a police investigation for the past two years regarding over £600,000 of donations given to the party by independence activists. Sturgeon, Murrell, and SNP treasurer Colin Beattie were the three signatories on the party's accounts. Sturgeon served as Scotland's first minister for over eight years and was the only woman to have held the position.

The SNP has not commented on Sturgeon's arrest, stating that the issue is subject to a live police investigation.
