Today’s NYT ‘Connections’ Hints and Answers for Sunday, October 13

Hello, everyone! I hope your weekend is going splendidly. As the weather turns chilly, I've been taking the opportunity to rest and recharge. It's the perfect excuse to cozy up with a warm drink and dive into some fun activities, like playing the New York Times’ Connections game.

For those looking for hints and answers for today’s Connections puzzle, you’re in the right place! Let’s break down how to play and what to expect.

How to Play Connections

Connections is a popular daily word game from The New York Times that challenges players to group 16 words into four distinct categories. A new puzzle is released daily at midnight, and you can play it online or through the NYT Games app.

The objective is straightforward: arrange the words into four groups of four based on shared themes or links. These categories can vary widely, from objects to phrases or concepts. Each puzzle has only one correct solution, but it’s essential to be mindful of words that might fit into multiple categories, as this can complicate your groupings.

The game uses a color-coded system to indicate the difficulty of each group, with yellow typically being the easiest and purple the most challenging, often involving clever wordplay.

Today’s Puzzle Words

Today's puzzle includes the following 16 words:

CARGO

BOULDER

CLAW

HAMMER

ANVIL

HORN

CALIFORNIA

COYOTE

EGG

STIRRUP

DRUM

TNT

CAPRI

HOOF

HONOR

NAIL

Hints for Today’s Groups

To help you along, here are the hints for each group:

Yellow group: Human and animal parts made of the same protein.

Green group: Meep meep!

Blue group: Fabric variants.

Purple group: CINNAMON and BREAD would fit here.

Groupings and Their Meanings

Now, if you’re looking for a bit more guidance, here’s what the groups look like without immediately revealing the specific words:

Yellow group: This group consists of items that are made of keratin.

Green group: These words are all related to characters from a beloved cartoon featuring a quick, clever bird.

Blue group: This group includes various types of pants.

Purple group: These words are commonly associated with a type of roll often found in sushi.

Today’s Connections Answers

If you’re ready for the answers, here they are! Spoiler alert—don’t scroll down if you want to figure it out yourself!

Yellow group (made of keratin): CLAW, HOOF, HORN, NAIL

Green group (Road Runner cartoon staples): ANVIL, BOULDER, COYOTE, TNT

Blue group (kinds of pants): CAPRI, CARGO, HAMMER, STIRRUP

Purple group (____ roll): CALIFORNIA, DRUM, EGG, HONOR

My Experience with Today’s Puzzle

I must admit, today’s game had me on my toes! I managed to maintain an impressive streak of eight consecutive wins, but it wasn’t without its challenges. It took me a few moments to connect EGG and HONOR, but once I did, the purple group fell into place. I had recently been out for sushi and vividly remembered seeing California rolls on the menu, which helped jog my memory.

However, I found myself stuck for a while after that. The link between COYOTE and TNT eventually clicked, leading me to the green group. As I worked through the yellow group, my initial guess of HORN, CLAW, HAMMER, and NAIL left me just one word away from success. I mistakenly swapped HORN for STIRRUP, only to realize later that HAMMER didn’t belong, as the other words were all animal-related.

While my fashion knowledge was lacking when it came to the blue group, I still managed to piece it together in the end. It’s always a satisfying feeling to unravel the puzzle, even if it takes a bit of time!

Conclusion

And there you have it! That wraps up today’s hints and answers for the NYT Connections game. If you’re eager for more challenges, be sure to check back for hints and solutions for tomorrow's puzzle.

P.S. If you’re in the mood for something a little more thrilling, I recommend checking out You’re Next, a slasher film that masterfully blends horror with dark humor. It features a standout lead performance and is sure to entertain those who can handle a bit of gore. It’s a shame that the actor didn’t achieve even greater stardom afterward, but their work in this film is certainly memorable. Enjoy your weekend, and happy puzzling!
