The first episode of DEHA series  Aras Bulut iynemli

A Personal Analysis of the First Episode of "The Genius": When the Spotlight Shines on Everyone

It's quite rare for Turkish series to begin with such powerful scenes. Typically, these intense moments appear closer to the episode's end. However, "The Genius" took a different approach, starting with an incredibly strong scene. Defran successfully solved a complex mathematical theorem, similar to Fermat's Last Theorem, winning a million-dollar prize intended for his family. This scene was executed brilliantly, both in terms of concept and execution, immediately drawing the viewer into the story without any lengthy introductions. Aras Bulut İnemli delivered a remarkable performance, conveying the character's emotions through subtle body language, even in silent moments. For example, when a professor underestimated his abilities, Defran's silent response of wiping his shoe was incredibly powerful.

In the flashbacks, we see how Defran loved his father, Iskender, but was exploited for his father's fraudulent schemes, leading Defran to seek revenge while simultaneously delaying it.

I've titled this analysis "When the Spotlight Shines on Everyone" because every actor in the cast delivered a strong performance. This is refreshing, as the series gave each actor the space to showcase their abilities. Taner Ölmez, who plays the character of Cesur, was particularly impressive. His ability to adapt and change his persona to suit his own interests was evident in the scenes where he acquired the diamond and informed the governor that the money Iskender sent with Buran was fake. Cesur was undoubtedly one of the stars of the episode. The female characters were also well-chosen, with their roles perfectly suited to the actresses. For example, Ayşal, Iskender's wife, is his intellectual partner in crime, cunning and manipulative. Her snake bracelet, a gift from Iskender, symbolizes her nature perfectly.

I've saved the best for last: Ogur Bulat, who plays Iskender. He portrayed the deceitful, manipulative, and self-serving character with exceptional skill. Iskender is a man who cares only for himself and his own interests. I loved the detail of how his personality remained unchanged over the years. In the past, he exploited young Defran's intelligence for his own gain, and in the present, he exploits his son Buran to protect himself and his other son, Cesur, not out of love but out of weakness towards his wife, Ayşal. Despite her deceit, Ayşal never abandoned her son, unlike Iskender.

The series' tagline is "One is a genius of good, the other is a genius of evil," referring to Defran and Iskender. A crucial detail highlighted in the episode is that Defran's genius is a talent, while Iskender's is based on cunning, deceit, and manipulation. This makes Defran superior in this regard. A brief flashback showed young Iskender suffering at the hands of his family, which may have shaped him into the opportunistic, loveless person he became.

The phrase "If the curtain" is a recurring phrase used by Iskender whenever he's about to execute a trick or deception. In the final scene, Defran used the same phrase, as if to tell his father that he knows his true nature and that he is a manipulative person. Defran, having suffered from Iskender's exploitation, knows him better than anyone else. In contrast, Iskender only knows the child Defran was, not the young man he has become. This gives Defran the upper hand in his quest for revenge. If you pay attention to the scene at the table, you'll notice that Defran will be playing with three enemies: Iskender, Cesur (who is responsible for Buran's death), and the judge who ordered Buran's execution. This final scene reminded me of the first episode of "Ezel," where a similar scene took place in Cyprus.

In conclusion, this episode was fantastic and a worthy comeback for Aras Bulut İnemli after a three-year absence. The series topped the ratings, proving that Aras remains a top-rated actor.
