Royal Navy Monitors Russian Military Aircraft and Ships

The Royal Navy has successfully intercepted and monitored Russian military aircraft and ships that have passed through international airspace near the United Kingdom in recent weeks. The operation involved the Royal Air Force (RAF) launching Typhoon fighters to escort the Russian aircraft out of UK airspace.

The Russian aircraft, which were part of a larger naval exercise in the Barents Sea, were closely monitored by British forces to ensure they posed no threat to UK security. The RAF jets were scrambled as part of the Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) force, which is on standby 365 days a year to defend UK airspace.

The Russian warships and their support vessels were also tracked by British naval forces. These operations are permitted under international law, as the Russian ships were exercising their right of innocent passage.

Commander David Armstrong, the Commanding Officer of HMS Iron Duke, expressed pride in his ship's company for their professionalism and dedication during the operation. He emphasized the importance of maritime security operations in protecting UK sovereign waters and critical infrastructure.

Russia's naval exercise in the Barents Sea, which is the largest since the Cold War, involved artillery firing and other military activities. This exercise serves as a reminder of the ongoing tensions between Russia and Western nations.
