In a remarkable rescue operation, two children who had been trapped inside a malfunctioning cable car in Pakistan were safely zip lined to the ground, bringing an end to a grueling 16-hour ordeal. The incident occurred in the mountainous region of Battagram, where the children, along with two adults, were using the cable car to reach their school.

The operation began after the cable car's wire snapped at around 7 am on Tuesday morning, leaving the children, aged between 10 and 15, and the adults stranded in mid-air. Despite the challenging circumstances, a team of rescuers worked tirelessly to save them. As darkness fell, four of the six children had already been rescued, but concerns arose that the remaining two might have to spend the night suspended in the air due to unfavorable weather conditions.

Undeterred by the adverse conditions, the determined rescue team persevered throughout the night. They employed a makeshift chairlift to successfully retrieve all eight individuals from the precarious position, 1,200 feet above the river canyon. When the helicopter rescue became impossible, the team utilized the intact cable to approach the cable car, with commandos expertly navigating the swaying rope against the rugged landscape to bring each child to safety.

Heartwarming footage captured the moment two of the youngsters were zip lined to the steep mountainside, where they were greeted with cheers and applause from a large crowd. Locals from the area, over 120 miles north of Islamabad, expressed their joy and relief, waving at the boys and uttering exclamations of praise. The rescued children were immediately reunited with their families, resulting in emotional scenes as tears of joy flowed among the relieved parents.

The successful rescue operation received confirmation from Pakistani officials. Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar ul Haq Kakar expressed his relief on social media, commending the collaborative effort of the military, rescue departments, district administration, and local residents. The UK's high commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott, also expressed gratitude to all those involved in the tireless rescue efforts.

The incident attracted media attention, with some of the trapped individuals managing to communicate with their families via mobile phones. Early footage showcased the cable car precariously suspended over the deep valley, while another video depicted the tense moment when a rescuer, suspended from a helicopter, descended to the cable car using a single cable. With the child safely harnessed, they were carefully transported to the ground.

The rescue operation faced additional challenges due to gusty winds in the area, and the rotor blades of the helicopters posed a potential risk to the unstable cable car. Local residents with experience in such rescue operations also joined the effort, employing a slow and meticulous process of securing themselves with ropes and using a small chairlift to rescue the trapped children one by one.

This harrowing incident unfolded as the children were commuting to school via the cable car. The cable car malfunctioned at an altitude of 1,200 feet during its journey in the remote and rugged terrain of northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The rescue mission was further complicated by the treacherous winds and the need to avoid destabilizing the cable car further.

Throughout the ordeal, the trapped individuals anxiously appealed to authorities for their swift rescue. One of them, Gulfaraz, pleaded for immediate action, expressing the precariousness of their situation and the distress experienced by the children, one of whom had fainted due to heat and fear.

Prior to the rescue attempt, military helicopters conducted reconnaissance flights, and an airman was lowered by harness to provide essential supplies of food, water, and medicine. The coordinated efforts of the rescuers ensured the safe retrieval of all those involved in the cable car incident, bringing an end to a challenging and suspenseful operation.
