McLaren declared in January that it had marked a possibility for a future section in Formula E for the beginning of the Gen3 rule cycle in 2022-23.

The British marque has additionally been assessing a potential re-visitation of the 24 Hours of Le Mans by entering the WEC with a program in the new LMDh class.

These projects would supplement McLaren's current presence in series outside of Formula 1, including IndyCar and Extreme E, with a section to the last option being reported back in June.

McLaren Racing CEO Brown gave a report on McLaren's contemplations for a move into either Formula E or WEC on Saturday in Abu Dhabi, saying he didn't anticipate a choice before the year's end.

"Sensibly it will presumably crawl into Q1 of the following year, which in fact we're alright with," said Brown.

"What's been driving our timetable is if we somehow happened to enter [is] the specialized arrangement that would should be done to be ready.

"We've accomplished sufficient work on both series to be alright with the course of events moving a little.

"The explanation the timetable is moving is we're only not in a situation to settle on a choice yet. We should be agreeable where we're at with our IndyCar, Formula 1 and Extreme E groups.

"So I believe it will be right off the bat in Q1 before we settle on any ultimate conclusions."

Brown said back in June that McLaren's choice on a Formula E section "goes until the year's end", with the Gen3 guidelines set to come into power after the forthcoming season that beginnings one month from now

Brown has likewise investigated the chance of McLaren making a re-visitation of Le Mans and arranging a processing plant sportscar program for various years.

McLaren broadly won Le Mans in 1995, and could join a progression of makers in the LMDh classification, with Brown beforehand referring to the guidelines as "extremely engaging".
