Colts’ notebook: Michael Pittman Jr. gets what Carson Wentz tosses
INDIANAPOLIS – There's nothing convoluted with regards to Michael Pittman Jr's. rise Carson Wentz's go-to fellow.
What's going through his brain when Wentz lofts passes toward him?
"I need to get them,'' Pittman said subsequent to doing precisely that in the Indianapolis Colts' 30-18 success over the San Francisco 49ers in Levi's Stadium. "Carson can truly toss it out there, so I just had the opportunity to ensure that I'm the one that catches it.''
Wentz designated Pittman multiple times, and the outcomes were down evolving.
Pittman pulled in four passes for 105 yards, remembering a 28-yard score for a basic third-and-10 that gave the Colts a 30-18 lead with 2:49 leftover. On two different passes from Wentz, he drew impedance punishments against cornerbacks Emmanuel Moseley (19 yards) and Jaquiski Tartt (38 yards) that set up score runs by Wentz and Jonathan Taylor.
On the game-fixing TD, Pittman went over cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick for the challenged get, then, at that point, transformed and dove into the end zone.
"What I love about Pitt is he's so smelling cutthroat,'' Frank Reich said. "He has such a monster attitude, that he can rule versus anyone.''
With T.Y. Hilton missing six of the initial seven games – a quadriceps injury kept him out of the Niners' down – Pittman has accepted the No. 1 wideout job. He drives the group with 35 gets and 508 yards, and is on pace for 85 gatherings and 1,233 yards.
Pittman likewise has fostered a speedy science with Wentz on down-the-field tosses. He's averaging 14.5 yards per get, and had a season-long 57-yarder against San Francisco.
"I believe that is the reason they drafted me here,'' Pittman said. "Last year we couldn't actually get it moving out of the blue, however we acquired Carson and Carson simply loves to toss it profound.
"I love it, as well.''
Pittman made the most of a few chances to work with Wentz during the offseason, and that is paying off.
"I think we are on the correct way,'' he said.
Wentz said nothing Pittman does in games shocks him.
"Not any longer,'' he said. "I've seen it enough by and by. I know what he brings to the table, as that is the explanation I'm so positive about allowing it to fly.
"You got a person like that you just had the opportunity to allow him an opportunity. He came up large this evening.''
Linebacker Darius Leonard proceeded with his initial season action item gorge. He constrained a bobble by wideout Deebo Samuel in the second quarter with his protected finish off method.
Leonard has constrained a turnover in five straight games and six of seven by and large. He has two interferences, three constrained bobbles and three bumble recuperations.
The guard created four focus points: constrained bungles by Leonard and end Al-Quadin Muhammad on a sack of Jimmy Garoppolo and captures from Xavier Rhodes and Khari Willis.
