Basbousa Egyptian semolina cake
Ingredients:
500g durum wheat semolina
200g sugar
40g butter
40g milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the sugar syrup:
2 glasses of water
1 glass of sugar
½ lemon juice
That's how it's done:
- Sugar syrup preparation:
- Let the sugar, water and lemon juice boil in a saucepan until the sugar has dissolved, then simmer for another 5 minutes. Set aside to cool.
- Basbousa dough, this is how it works:
- Mix the semolina, sugar and butter together and knead well with your hands.
- Add milk and vanilla extract and mix briefly with your hands to form a smooth dough.
- Grease the baking sheet 30 * 28, add the dough, smooth it out and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- Bake in the preheated oven at 180 ° C / 30-40 minutes.
- Take the Basbousa cake out of the oven, pour the cold sugar syrup over it while still hot and let it steep for an hour.
- Garnish and serve to taste.
