Jason Bourne returns! Matt Damon confirms he will reprise his role as the CIA assassin for a fourth time
It was reported earlier this year that he wouldn't make a return to the Bourne film franchise.
But it appears Matt Damon has had a change of heart.
The 44-year-old revealed to E!
News that he will be reprising his role as CIA assassin Jason Bourne for a fourth time.
'Yes, next year,' he said alongside friend Ben Affleck at a celebration for their resurrected HBO show Project Greenlight on Friday evening.
'It'll be in 2016 when the movie will actually come out. [Director] Paul Greengrass is going to do another one and that's all I ever said. I just needed him to say yes.'
Ben in fact revealed the news first, telling E!: 'Well, [Matt's] going to be doing a Bourne movie next fall when I've just lost any semblance of physical fitness.'
Good news for fans: Damon said the film will come out in 2016, and that it will directed by Paul Greengrass, Damon pictured in the 2007 film The Bourne Ultimatum
Matt starred in the first three Bourne films, two of which were directed by Greengrass.
The Oscar winner previously said he wouldn't do another film unless Greengrass was at the helm.
The director told Deadline last year that he didn't plan to return to the franchise.
'In the end I felt I had given it my all in two films I'm very proud of and didn't want to make another if I didn't believe it could be as good if not better,' he said. 'I couldn't come up with an idea, and the business reality of franchises is that when a studio has a Bourne, they're obliged to make one every couple of years. I discovered in my heart I didn't have another one in me.'
