A surreal take on the Bad News Bears, it seems. With the professional Polish soccer team Warta Poznan in danger of dropping down a division as it struggles to stay afloat, a surprising potential savior has emerged.
Coming to the players' rescue is former Playboy cover model Izabela Lukomska-Pyzalska, 33, who has vowed to reverse their fortunes and turn them into winners.
Lukomska-Pyzalska has been named club chair of the second-division team and won't be cowed by Poland's macho soccer scene, she told the rolling news channel TVN24, according to FoxSoccer.com.
"This isn't a problem for me. It's my meat and drink," she said.
She runs a real estate and construction firm now, having given up modeling.
"That's hardly a woman's world either," she says. "I don't have a light touch in the construction sector. I'll be looking for the same things in football: order and discipline."
Warta is currently third from bottom in its division, and when the league resumes in March, the team is said to face an uphill battle.
