King George V's great-great-granddaughter marries Australian girlfriend in Royal family's first ever lesbian wedding in fun-filled outdoor ceremony

The Royal family witnessed a historic moment as Ellen Lascelles, the great-great-granddaughter of King George V, married her Australian girlfriend, Channtel McPherson, in a joyful outdoor ceremony in New South Wales, Australia.

Ellen, a 39-year-old aristocrat and niece of David Lascelles, the current Earl of Harewood, exchanged vows with Chan, sealing their union with a kiss in the presence of a handmade celebratory banner proclaiming 'Here Come The Brides'.

The couple, who resides in Australia, will form a blended family of five, as Ellen has a son named Jack and a daughter named Penny from a previous relationship, while Chan, the owner of a design company, has a daughter named Raff.

Unlike the wedding reception of Ellen's grandparents, the Earl and Countess of Harewood, which took place at St James's Palace and was attended by George VI and Queen Elizabeth, Ellen chose a distinctly different setting. Their ceremony unfolded amidst the breathtaking beauty of the Byron Bay Hinterland, featuring rolling hills, captivating vistas, lush rainforests, and enchanting waterfalls.

Ellen expressed her joy and gratitude for the day, stating, 'Channtel and I were surrounded by our cherished loved ones and experienced the most delightful, passionate, and love-filled celebration that I could have ever imagined.' She also highlighted the significance of the ceremony being held on the Bundjalung land, expressing deep respect and gratitude to the Arakwal people.

Ellen shared the excitement of their engagement with friends earlier, announcing that Chan proposed on New Year's Day, transforming their already incredible 2022 into an even more extraordinary 2023. In a playful manner, Ellen mentioned receiving two proposals that day and even showed off a cat ring as a temporary engagement symbol until they have a custom-made ring.

Known for her playful and free-spirited nature, Ellen described herself as a 'left-handed free spirit and full-time dreamer' and a 'sun-chasing vegan snack queen'. Alongside her glamorous younger sister, Amy, she once amused themselves by donning spoof tiaras and offering fitness classes that included lifting a 10kg dumbbell, humorously equating it to the weight of an average royal corgi, in celebration of Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding.

However, Ellen approached Chan's proposal with utmost seriousness, expressing that she felt like she was 'floating on a love cloud'. She shared radiant photos of herself and Chan enjoying beach time together, capturing their love and happiness.

This landmark wedding is not the first same-sex marriage within the extended Royal Family. Lord Ivar Mountbatten, the great-nephew of Lord 'Dickie' Mountbatten, achieved that milestone in 2018. After divorcing Penny Thompson, with whom he shares three daughters, Lord Ivar married James Coyle, a director of airline cabin services from Glasgow. Notably, Penny remained a close friend and even had the honor of giving Lord Ivar away at his wedding.
