CONOR McGregor has been accused of using a racial slur in his latest attack on Khabib Nurmagomedov as he compared his rival's wife to a “towel”.

McGregor, 30, tweeted a picture of Nurmagomedov on his wedding day in which the fighter's partner has a veil covering her face, a tradition in Muslim culture.

The tweet was captioned: “Your wife is a towel mate.”

McGregor swiftly deleted the tweet but not before it was retweeted thousands of times with many accusing the MMA fighter of Islamophobia.

The Irish star has faced backlash from fans who called the MMA fighter a “racist”.

One said: "Wow. What’s the point of attacking another man’s wife and their culture?"

Another said: "As an Irishman, my default setting is to support any Irish competitors in any endeavor. We're a small country with an us against the world fighting spirit. But McGregor's racist, homophobic bulls*** is a black eye on what being Irish is."
