The  new mother, 31, posted a snap of her cherubic new arrival along with the caption: 'Howdy friends!'

The little girl, who seems to have inherited her mother's pout, is dressed in a sweet striped jumpsuit and appears to be resting in the star's arms.

The Texan gave birth to her first child with fiancé, former NFL star Eric Johnson, on May 1. 

As well as looking after her new arrival, Jessica is also focusing on another time-consuming task - losing her baby weight.

The star, who posted a picture of her post-baby curves last week, hopes shrink to 130lbs before the end of the year.

Jessica Simpson couldn't resist sharing an adorable photo of her daughter Maxwell with her Twitter fans today.

Jessica is adamant she will shed 50 pounds in five months.

She has signed a $4million with Weight Watchers to reach her target of 130lbs.

And she's enlisted celebrity fitness trainer Harley Pasternak's and was spotted at his gym in West Hollywood last week.

In addition to her exercise regime, Jessica is following a strict diet.

She recently told People magazine that she is eating protein-packed meals and drinking home-mixed juices to help shed pounds. 

But in another interview with In Touch magazine, friends say that the star, who is also trying to care for her newborn little girl, is feeling 'stressed and overwhelmed'. 

Sources told the publication that the singer, who weighed a reported 210lbs at the height of her pregnancy, is also physically exhausted.
