Where Icelandic Models Foden and Greenwood Tried Sneaking Into Reykjavik Hotel Now

England and Iceland Renew Footballing Rivalry Amid Infamous Player Scandal

The upcoming matchup between England and Iceland on June 7th, 2024 promises to reignite the long-simmering rivalry between the two national teams. But this fixture is overshadowed by a notorious incident that occurred the last time the sides met in September 2020.

England's 1-0 victory over Iceland in Reykjavik was marred by a scandal involving Three Lions stars Phil Foden and Mason Greenwood. The two young players were caught breaking COVID-19 protocols by sneaking two Icelandic models, Nadia Sif Lindal Gunnarsdottir and Lara Clausen, into the England team's hotel in the early hours of the morning.

Nadia, then 20 years old, and her 19-year-old cousin Lara found themselves in a hotel room with the England players, flouting the strict Icelandic restrictions in place at the time. Footage later emerged showing Foden exposing himself to the models, who recorded some of their interactions on social media.

Lara admitted that she "did not realise how famous the footballers were" and posted the illicit videos on Snapchat, sparking a major scandal. The incident resulted in both Foden and Greenwood being sent home from international duty in disgrace.

In the aftermath, Nadia's profile has continued to rise. The stunning Icelandic model now boasts over 22,000 followers on social media, where she shares glamorous snaps from her burgeoning modelling career. In 2019, she even appeared in the Icelandic film Echo before going on to become a finalist in the Miss Universe Iceland pageant.

The blonde bombshell has also become something of a globetrotter, with recent trips taking her to Italy, Cyprus, and the UK. Her cousin Lara, meanwhile, has maintained a lower profile since the hotel room incident.

The fallout from that infamous night in Reykjavik cast a long shadow over the subsequent meetings between England and Iceland. When the sides clashed again in the UEFA Nations League in 2020, it was played behind closed doors due to COVID-19 restrictions, denying fans the chance to vent their frustrations.

Now, as the two teams prepare to renew hostilities on June 7th, 2024, the focus will inevitably return to that scandalous episode. Can England put the ghosts of the past behind them, or will Iceland once again prove to be a thorn in the Three Lions' side? The stage is set for another captivating chapter in this bitter international rivalry.
