Renowned broadcaster Chris Evans has recently disclosed his skin cancer diagnosis, highlighting the significance of early detection. The 57-year-old revealed the news on his Virgin Radio show, crediting his masseuse Dee as an "angel sent from heaven" for noticing a concerning freckle and encouraging him to seek medical attention.
During the show, Chris shared with his listeners that the cancer was detected at an extremely early stage, referred to as "stage zero" by doctors. This optimistic prognosis indicates that the cancer is highly treatable. He expressed gratitude for the timely discovery and emphasized the importance of prompt medical intervention. Treatment for the condition is scheduled for next month.
This is not the first encounter Chris has had with cancer. In 2020, he experienced a skin cancer scare and underwent tests after discovering worrisome marks on his body. Fortunately, those tests yielded negative results. Additionally, in 2015, he faced a prostate cancer scare but was ultimately given a clean bill of health.
Chris commended his masseuse, Dee, for her vigilant observation of the freckle on his shin, which led to the diagnosis. He described the subsequent operation he underwent and shared that the email he received while on vacation indicated the need for further discussion regarding his results. However, due to the early detection, doctors expressed confidence in successfully treating the melanoma, which is the type of skin cancer he is facing. The treatment is scheduled for September 14th.
It is essential to note that early detection plays a vital role in combating skin cancer. Melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma are the three primary types of skin cancer. While melanoma comprises only a small percentage of cases, it is responsible for the majority of deaths associated with skin cancer. Timely identification and prompt removal of the cancerous growth can significantly improve the prognosis.
