4 in hospital after explosion at Ayr housing estate in Kincaidston suggested that at least one house had been destroyed in the blast

He said: "Following I felt an enormous detonation, I realized it was a blast. I was in the military so I know what blasts are. 

"I ran up, about a fourth of a pretty far... There was fire in the back garden and essentially in where the house was. 

"The house was not where it was, it was dispersed with regards to the road." 

Mr McCann said he and others who had rushed to help were taken out from the space for their own wellbeing not long after. 

He added: "The entire house has vanished, the peak end of the other house is opened up and there's vehicles with windows put in from the shrapnel. 

"Passing the shop returning I heard individuals saying stuff fell off the racks from the blast." 

Caroline Finnett, who lives in Kincaidston, was playing bingo at a companion's home when she heard a "monstrous bang". 

She heard alarms and saw smoke surging, so advanced back home. Her road was covered with broken rooftop tiles. 

She told BBC Scotland: "We approached where the house has been blown away, and it was ghastly - resembled something from a film set. It was overpowering. 

"The house's gone."
