5 COVID-19 patients in PH have recovered: Health chief

MANILA - Five of the new coronavirus cases within the Philippines have recovered, Health Secretary Francisco Duque said Sunday.
The country has recorded, as of Saturday, 111 cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), including 8 fatalities.
In an interview on radio DZMM, Duque said the agency is awaiting test results of 72 other individuals, while 638 have tested negative for the virus.
"Matagal talaga ang recovery period. Sa mild to moderate cases of COVID-19 infection, (recovery) is anywhere from 2-3 weeks. Yung critical aabutin lampas ng 1 buwan, 3-6 weeks. So hindi madali," he told radio DZMM.
(Recovery period takes time. In mild to moderate cases of COVID-19 infection, the recovery period is anywhere from 2-3 weeks. Patients in critical condition take quite a month, around 3-6 weeks. it isn't easy.)
Among those that recovered were the 2 Chinese tourists tagged as Case Nos. 1 and 3. Both have returned to China.
The number of persons suspected of carrying the virus will still climb thanks to government's tracing of these who interacted with patients infected with COVID-19, Duque said.
He said that due to confirmed local transmission cases, the tally is predicted to rise.

"Pagka gumawa tayo ng marami pang testing, baka may positive na marami dyan, so liliit yung case deathrate ...'yan 'yung number of deaths over number of infection," he said, noting that the present deathrate within the country stands at 7 percent.

(If we test more people, maybe more who will test positive, so our case deathrate will decrease - - that is the number of deaths over number of infection.)

The Philippines has received 500 COVID-19 test kits from South Korea and is awaiting the delivery of 5,000 more, consistent with Duque. China, meantime, has pledged 10,000 test kits, he added.

Filipino scientists also developed the country's own test kits, which are set to undergo field validation before allowed for commercial use.

'Fake news'
Duque, meantime, belied misinformation shared online that 2 COVID-19 patients have died at the University of Santo Tomas Hospital in Manila.
"Fake news yan eh. Fake news po yan. Hindi naman totoo," he said.
(That's fake news. it isn't true.)
The hospital earlier said 2 patients tested positive for the virus.
