Brock Lesnar was revealed as the superstar on the cover of the WWE
2K17 game. Considering it has been the case in some form with at least
the last two cover superstars, Brock Lesnar will probably be the basis
of the “2K Showcase mode.”Do you have an issue with Brock being on the cover? Are you looking forward to playing through the history of Brock’s career? Or do you think it could be a different kind of showcase mode?
Is there anything you would like to see added to 2K17? Or changed from what was in last year’s game?
John Cash – No issue whatsoever. He will
sell copies based on his picture alone. If they were clever, they’d
model it after the cover from Here Comes The Pain, with Brock in the
foreground and other wrestlers in the background. It will be interesting
to see how much of his career is actually covered; will they get the
rights to show OVW and have an OVW arena, for instance. I don’t know how
you could do his “whole career” without Kurt Angle though, so it
remains to be seen if that’s what the showcase is like this year. Maybe
it will end up being an original story, written/booked by THE ADVOCATE
Paul Heyman? That would be cool. I would like them to focus more on
Universe mode and making it more interesting and less random. Also, they
need to make tag team matches fun again. The one thing that has been a
pipe dream for wrestling gamers for a long time now has been a FUN Royal
Rumble (before anyone points out the arcade/dreamcast game) where you
can have more than six people in the ring at the same time, so that
would be interesting to see if they can finally pull that off on next
gen/PC.
Todd Vote – Brock Lesnar is the biggest
star in the WWE right now. His name is on the tongue of wrestling fans
and MMA fans alike. Him being the cover athlete is a no-brainer. That
said, I am sort of hoping they step away from Showcase mode and go back
to a more standard story mode for the game that can be changed up
depending on the wrestler you choose to progress as. I miss the story
modes from games past like Here Comes The Pain and the like. If the do a
Showcase mode, I’m hoping it isn’t Brock, though. A great career he has
had, no doubt, but outside of his first title win against the Rock,
ending the streak, and destroying Cena, I just don’t feel his career is
filled with enough iconic moments to fill out the showcase. There are a
few other moments that would be great to revisit, but I don’t know how
likely they would be for inclusion into the Showcase. His destruction of
Hogan on an episode of Smackdown a while back, or him shit-kicking Zach
Gowen would be amusing, but we all know Hogan isn’t allowed in the
games right now, and I can’t see Gowen being added just for this one
moment. Maybe I am blanking on a couple of other moments, the Shooting
Star botch, Iron Man Match with Angle, but I just don’t feel his career
has enough content for the Showcase mode. As for what I would like to
see from 2K17? I’m still waiting on a complete overhaul. In my personal
opinion, the series could greatly benefit from it.
Marc Morrison – Yeah, giving it to the
guy who wrestles 4 times a year is a real great move. Granted, he is a
more legitimate superstar than most of the roster, but that’s more a
failing on the writing staff’s part, than in any of the current wrestler
right now, since so few of them have characters. I just hope Lesnar’s
Wrestlemania 20 match is in the game, so you can hear the crowd crap on
both him and Goldberg for being quitters. For next year, they should
just say “Screw it” and put the New Day on the cover, since those are
the only three guys people seem to care about. Bonus points if they are
wearing their Saiyan armor on it.
Daniel Anderson – I do not have an issue
really with Brock being on the cover. I do question putting a
part-time wrestler on the cover of your sole video game. He is someone
that will disappear eventually and not be on programming for a few
months. There isn’t really anything I would think of adding to the
game. My biggest complaint about the game is that every year it just
feels like a roster update. I could be wrong, but that is my opinion.
Quizmaster – Todd pretty much nailed this one on
the head for 4,000 points and the game. There’s too many issues I think
for him to have a straight up total career showcase. Maybe you start at
the WM 20 match with Goldberg and then only do his current run from
2012. He hits on why you couldn’t really have too much of his past and
also hits on why Brock should be on the cover. I also agree, but it
probably won’t happen this year. They need an overhaul of several modes
and find a way to make career mode more interesting once you hit the
midway point.
