Joel Riley, 26, and his girlfriend Mary Keir, 29, own a chain of three fudge shops in Cornwall.
Mr
Riley says he can not see the benefits of quadrupling the number of tax
returns, and the extra burden will cost them a fortune in accountancy
fees.
The
change would mean, he says, that they would be dealing with their tax
return eight weeks of the year, rather than putting time into running
their business.

He
said: ‘It’s a hell of a lot of extra time and money wasted. It’s
probably £1,000 per tax return so if you are doing that four times a
year that’s a lot of money – I would want to know why it’s being
changed.’
Mr
Riley said although his company is able to look after its payroll, tax
returns ‘just seem to get more and more complicated and you have to get
an accountant.’
‘It’s so hard to keep up with the changes,’ he added.
Mr Riley was inspired by his father’s fudge company to set up on his own. He had previously worked in the mining industry.
