ED MILIBAND JOINS CORBYN TO OPPOSE MILITARY INTERVENTION
Former
Labour leader Ed Miliband will vote against extending air strikes into
Syria, claiming the case for raids has not been made.
Prime
Minister David Cameron has failed to outline a clear plan for securing a
political settlement or set out a convincing argument that the bombing
campaign will make Britain safer, he said.
Mr
Miliband ordered his party to oppose military intervention against
Bashar Assad's brutal regime in Syria during a vote in 2013 in a move
that helped to defeat the Government.
He
said: 'Isil cannot be defeated from the air alone, as even supporters
of air strikes acknowledge, and because Isil's success depends on the
vacuum created from a multi-sided civil war.
'Neither
an explanation of who the ground troops will be, nor the political
settlement we are seeking in Syria, or how we get there, has been
provided by the Government. We would be going ahead without an adequate
road-map or a clear strategy.'
