TERROR FEAR OVER ACTIVIST GROUP THAT HAS CORBYN AS A PATRON
An
activist organisation that has Jeremy Corbyn as a patron has had its
bank accounts closed over fears it may be funding terrorism.
The
Palestine Solidarity Campaign, whose patrons also include the
Oscar-winning actress Julie Christie, was told by the Co-op Bank its
account was being closed because of ‘risk appetite’.
The
high-risk locations where the PSC operates and sends funds were
highlighted in a statement by the bank, which must carry out ‘advanced
due diligence checks’ as part of money-laundering laws.
The
statement said it was ‘not possible to complete these checks to our
satisfaction and the decision to close a number of accounts, including
the PSC and some of its affiliates, is an inevitable result of this
process’.
The
PSC said it is launching legal action against the bank on the grounds
of discrimination. The group accused Co-op of ‘turning its back on its
ethical principles’.
