Tribute: Matthew Reeve paid a moving tribute to late father Christopher Reeve in a speech at the Comic Con event in New York City. His appearance came as part of The Big Idea, a spinal injury research initiative launched in conjunction with the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation
‘To me he was dad and he was just awesome,’ he told those in attendance. ‘He could fly an airplane, he could sail a boat, he was an accomplished piano player. Just the other day, I found some of his stuff and it had this music sheet in it.

The son of late Superman actor Christopher Reeve has paid a moving tribute to his father, ten years after he passed away at the age of 52.
Speaking at the Comic Con event in New York City, Matthew Reeve reminisced about the legendary film star, who was left with a devastating spinal injury that confined him to a wheelchair after being thrown from a horse in 1995.
Reflecting on their close bond, Matthew admitted his father was a superhero both on and off the screen, where millions knew him as Superman.

Matthew’s speech came as he launched The Big Idea campaign, an ambitious endeavour that aims to raise $15 million for epidural stimulation research.
According to its official website, The Big Idea has developed an epidural stimulator that makes recovery from paralysis a possibility, citing the progress of four patients who now have sustained movement in previously paralysed limbs as a result of the innovative treatment.
The organisation now hopes to reach a broader range of people by treating a further 36 participants with the hope of improving cardiovascular, sexual and bladder functions, as well as general mobility.
‘It's the beginning of the end, we know the road ahead, we know where we want to get. It's just a question of getting there,’ said Mathew.
