Scout Willis went topless in New York on Tuesday to protest Instagram's policy on female nudity and a week letter explained her choice in a 7,000 word essay

The 22-year-old daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis made it clear she was highlighting her disagreement with Instagram's policy against female nudity. Using hashtag #FreeTheNipple, Scout captioned one shot: 'Legal in NYC but not on @instagram.'

Scout Willis shocked Twitter followers on Tuesday when she posted images of herself roaming New York City with no top on.

On Monday the college graduate went one step further by explaining her case on xo Jane in a 7,000 word essay. 'Earlier last week I decided to do something kind of crazy,' the blonde beauty started.

'Instagram had recently deleted my account over what they called "instances of abuse." Which in reality amounted to a photo of myself in a sheer top and a post of a jacket I made featuring a picture of two close friends topless,' she said.

'For these instances of abuse, I was politely informed that I would no longer be welcome in the Instagram community,' she added.

'What began as a challenge to Instagram and its prejudiced community guidelines became an opportunity for dialogue,' the sister of Rumer and Tallulah said.

'Matters like the taboo of the nipple in the 21st century, public breastfeeding, slut shaming, fat shaming, breast cancer awareness, body positivity, gender inequality, and censorship have found their way into mainstream discussion.

'But unfortunately the emphasis in the press has been on sensationalizing my breasts, chiefly in terms of my family. '
