The 25-year-old from Essex said: 'Ever since I was a kid my dream was always to be a singer. When I was about nine I wrote a song called Frisbee, I sang it to all my friends in the park and from then on I kind of got the bug.

She stands hands entwined blinking in the blinding spotlight before a baying audience.

Then Britain's Got Talent contestant Emma Halsam pads around barefoot on stage, giving the appearance of being struck by stage fright.

That is, until she unexpectedly bursts into life with a raunchy pole dance to rapturous applause on Saturday night's ITV1 show.

Wrapping and twirling her cherubic frame around a steel pole, Emma's acrobatic antics stun judges Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden, and David Walliams.

The mother of one from Smalley, Derby, said she is thrilled to have starred on the show, telling The Sun newspaper:

'Producers begged me to go on the show after seeing a video of me, it was crazy. Simon said I was really good. David said it didn't matter about my size at all.'

Fellow contestant, Ed Drewett, a little-known songwriter who penned the Best Song Ever for One Direction also takes to the stage in a bid to make it through to the next round.

As he steps in front of the microphone Ed, - who wrote the number two hit for the boyband as well as The Wanted's chart topper All Time Low - performs another one of his songs in an attempt to become a star in his own right.
