EW.com reports that the show is a 'one-hour contemporary thriller series featuring the classic characters from Thomas Harris’ novel Red Dragon – FBI agent Will Graham and his mentor Dr. Hannibal Lecter – who are re-introduced at the beginning of their budding relationship.'
Graham was portrayed by Edward Norton in the 2002 film Red Dragon.
Red alert! The new NBC series is based on Thomas Harris' 1981 novel, Red Dragon
The character is responsible for capturing Lecter after he went on his animalistic human eating spree.
Playing the role of Starling in 1991's The Silence of the Lambs won Jodie Foster a Best Actress Oscar.
Lecter, of course, was made famous by actor Anthony Hopkins, who, like Foster, also won an Academy Award for his portrayal of the thinking man's serial killer.

It was based on a novel of the same name by author Thomas Harris and is the second of four novels based on the serial murderer.
It is not yet known who will fill Lecter's gigantic shoes, though whoever takes on the role won't have an easy task.
