She was Born Nouhad Haddad (Arabic: نهاد حداد‎) in Jabal al Arz (Cedar Mountain) to a modest Syriac Orthodox family and was married to Assi Rahbani, one of the two brothers that helped shaping her singing career. she is also the mother of the Lebanese singer and composer Ziad Rahbani.

Long ago when I was small there was a boy
who came from the Woods, and
we played he and I
his name was Shadi.

Me and Shadi sang together
We played on the snow, and ran through the breeze.
We wrote little stories on the rocks
And we waved our arms in the air.

Then one day the world ignited...
People against people dragging the world into it,
and the battle approached
on the hills and the world approached,
and descended on the sides of the valley.

Shadi ran watching, and
I was scared and called out to him
"Where are you going Shadi?"
I called out to him and he didn't hear me !!
And he went further and further down the valley,
and since that day I saw him no longer !!
Shadi is lost.
And the snow has come and gone
Twenty times came and gone,
and I've gotten older...
While Shady is still small,
And still playing on the snow...
On the snow !!
