Wayne Rooney's father and uncle arrested over an alleged football betting scam

Wayne Rooney's father, Wayne Rooney Snr, and his uncle Richie are among a group of nine people including a Scottish Premier League footballer arrested over allegations of a football betting scam.
The arrests were carried out across Liverpool and Glasgow this morning and relate to a game between Motherwell and Hearts in December last year.
During that match, Hearts won 2-1 after a second-half penalty.
Motherwell midfielder Steve Jennings was also arrested after allegedly getting himself sent off deliberately during the match.

Wayne Rooney Snr, 48, was arrested at his home in the West Derby area of Liverpool. Also held was Richie Rooney, 54.

The arrests were carried out by Merseyside Police in a joint operation with the Gambling Commission.
All the suspects are being held for questioning at police stations across Merseyside.
It is believed that there was a pattern of 'irregular betting' with stakes being put on a red card being given.
