Drunk woman, 41, laughed after headbutting nightclubber twice and breaking her nose

In a shocking incident at Vibez nightclub in Newport, Wales, a woman, identified as Katie Bromley, has been accused of breaking the nose of another clubgoer, Ryleigh Parfitt, by headbutting her twice. The court proceedings revealed that Bromley not only carried out this vicious attack but also laughed at her victim afterward, displaying a callous disregard for the consequences of her actions.

The incident occurred during a crowded night out at the nightclub when Bromley initially pushed Millie Parry Jones, one of Ryleigh's friends, after a minor collision. Sensing trouble, Ryleigh and Millie decided to leave the dancefloor and move to a different level. However, fate would bring them face to face with Bromley once again, as Millie pointed her out to Ryleigh.

According to prosecutor Sarah Iles, Bromley approached the two friends and aggressively confronted them, asking, "What the f**k are you looking at?" This confrontation quickly escalated when Bromley took hold of Ryleigh's head, drew back her own head, and forcefully headbutted Ryleigh in the face. The impact was immediate and caused Ryleigh intense pain.

The severity of the assault became apparent when Ryleigh lost consciousness on the way to the hospital, where she received treatment for her fractured nose and tender jaw. In a statement read to the court, Ryleigh expressed the profound impact the attack had on her life, both physically and emotionally. She described the assault as completely unprovoked and expressed the lasting consequences it had on her confidence, causing severe anxiety and flashbacks. Ryleigh also voiced her fear of encountering Bromley again in the local area.

During the court proceedings, Georgina Buckley, Bromley's defense attorney, emphasized her client's early guilty plea, which was entered at the first opportunity in the magistrates' court. Buckley argued that the assault was a spontaneous and brief act of violence, which was out of character for Bromley. She highlighted the defendant's remorse and attributed the incident to her high level of intoxication at the time.

In response, Judge Paul Hopkins KC condemned Bromley's actions, describing the violence as deplorable. Despite the mitigating factors presented by the defense, Bromley pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm on June 18, 2023. The judge handed down a 12-month suspended sentence, requiring Bromley to stay out of trouble during that period. She was also ordered to pay £500 in compensation to Ryleigh, as well as £200 in costs and a £187 surcharge.

The court case shed light on an unsettling incident that left one individual traumatized and physically harmed. It serves as a reminder of the potential consequences of violent behavior and highlights the importance of personal accountability for one's actions, even in situations fueled by intoxication.
