The Marvel actor was diagnosed with the condition, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, in August 2018, and started using a wheelchair in October 2019 


 Star Trek and Marvel star Kenneth Mitchell passed away at the age of 49 after a heroic five-year battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The talented actor, known for his roles in Star Trek and Marvel productions, fought bravely against the debilitating disease.

Kenneth Mitchell is survived by his loving wife Susan May Pratt and their two children, Lilah and Kallum. The devastating news of his passing came after a long and courageous struggle with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Mitchell was diagnosed with the condition in August 2018, and by October 2019, he began using a wheelchair.


In his career, Mitchell made significant contributions to the Star Trek franchise. He portrayed various Klingon characters such as Kol, Kol-Sha, Tenavik, and Aurellio in Star Trek: Discovery. Additionally, he lent his voice to several characters in an episode of Star Trek: Lower Decks. Born on November 25, 1974, in Toronto, Mitchell's acting talents extended beyond Star Trek. He showcased his skills in films like Captain Marvel, Miracle, and television shows such as Jericho, The Astronaut Wives Club, Ghost Whisperer, and Switched at Birth.

Mitchell's obituary, posted on his Instagram by his family, expressed their admiration for his resilience and zest for life. His Star Trek: Discovery co-star, Anthony Rapp, shared Mitchell's obituary on his Instagram story, paying tribute to the wonderful man who brightened the lives of many. Rapp acknowledged Mitchell's joyful kindness and incredible courage, considering himself privileged to have known him.

Fellow Canadian actor Donal Logue expressed his grief on Instagram, describing Mitchell as a beautiful and sweet man, talented actor, great athlete, and golden human being. Logue marveled at Mitchell's ability to navigate life's challenges with grace, strength, and humility, without a hint of self-pity.

To honor Mitchell's memory and support his family, a GoFundMe page was set up by his wife's friend Carolyn Lewinsky. The page aims to provide assistance to the family he left behind, emphasizing Mitchell's role as a pillar of strength and the love he received from those fortunate enough to be in his life.
