Olympic champion Sir Chris Hoy has revealed he is being treated for cancer

Olympic legend Sir Chris Hoy reveals he has cancer: Six-time gold medalist says he was hit with the diagnosis last year and currently going through chemotherapy

Sir Chris Hoy, the six-time Olympic champion and renowned cyclist, has disclosed that he is currently undergoing treatment for cancer.

The 47-year-old Scottish athlete, who holds an impressive record of one silver and six gold medals, shared the news on social media, expressing his shock at the diagnosis, which he received last year.

In his Instagram statement, Sir Chris expressed his gratitude to the medical professionals providing him with care and acknowledged the support he has received.

While he had hoped to keep this information private for the sake of his young family, he felt compelled to share the news due to external circumstances. Despite the challenges he has faced in recent months, the Olympic legend stated that he currently feels fine, continues to work, ride his bike, and live his life as normal.

Sir Chris, who retired from professional cycling in 2013, is married to Sarra, an Edinburgh lawyer, and they have two children together. Despite the difficulties that come with a cancer diagnosis, he remains determined to face life with a positive attitude and is eagerly looking forward to the upcoming Paris Olympics in July.

Following his announcement, fellow sports stars took to social media to express their well wishes. Personalities such as Gary Lineker offered their support and wished him a full recovery.

Sir Chris, who has diversified his career since retiring from cycling, engaging in endeavors such as racing driving, television punditry, and children's authorship, is also a director of the London-based company Trackstars, alongside his wife Sarra.

This news of Sir Chris Hoy's cancer diagnosis adds to the recent revelations of other celebrities facing similar health challenges.

Earlier this month, King Charles III shared his own diagnosis, while Sarah Ferguson disclosed her skin cancer diagnosis after her previous breast cancer surgery. Additionally, television personality Jonnie Irwin tragically lost his battle with lung cancer in 2022.
