Did Vogue snub Meghan Markle? Royal fans question why the Duchess of Sussex didn't appear on one-time pal Edward Enninful's final cover with 40 of the world's leading ladies

Controversy Surrounding Meghan Markle's Absence from Edward Enninful's Final Vogue Cover

Edward Enninful, the outgoing editor-in-chief of British Vogue, recently unveiled the cover for his final edition featuring 40 prominent figures from the worlds of fashion and entertainment. However, one notable absence caught the attention of royal fans—the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle. Despite her previous close relationship with Enninful and her guest editorship of British Vogue in 2019, Markle was not included in the star-studded lineup, which featured personalities like Oprah Winfrey, Serena Williams, and Jameela Jamil.

Royal enthusiasts couldn't help but wonder why Markle was left out, with some speculating that she declined the opportunity. Social media was abuzz with questions, such as "Did Meghan Markle snub the Vogue cover?," suggesting that Markle's absence was a deliberate choice on her part. However, it remains unclear whether Markle was approached to appear on the cover or if other factors influenced her absence.

Markle's previous involvement with British Vogue was met with great success. Her "Forces for Change" issue, released in September 2019, featured inspiring women on its cover, including Gemma Chan, Jane Fonda, and former New Zealand prime minister Jacinda Ardern. It became the fastest-selling issue in the magazine's 104-year history, selling out in less than ten days.

In a previous interview with Sky News, Enninful addressed the criticism Markle faced upon joining the royal family, suggesting that while racism played a part, it was not the sole reason. He described her as a "brave woman" and attributed some of the challenges she encountered to the institution itself, emphasizing the expectations placed upon her and the learning curve involved.

Enninful's departure from British Vogue was announced last year, with plans for him to assume a new role as Conde Nast's global creative and cultural adviser for Vogue. His final cover shoot brought together an impressive array of 40 prominent women from various industries, including Victoria Beckham, Maya Jama, Naomi Campbell, and many others. In his editor's letter, Enninful expressed gratitude and pride for the work accomplished during his tenure, emphasizing the importance of continuing to champion diverse voices in fashion and media.

While Markle's absence from Enninful's final Vogue cover has sparked curiosity and speculation, the reasons behind her non-inclusion remain unknown. Fans will have to wait for further information or statements to shed light on this matter. The March issue of British Vogue, featuring the full cover feature, will be available for digital download and on newsstands from Tuesday, February 13.
