The Commonwealth Games has officially began, with a gap rite celebrating the history and lifestyle of the Midlands.

With a mix of dancing, making a song and acting, the rite has officially opened the games on the Alexander Stadium.

Creator of the Peaky Blinders, Steven Knight, is the government producer of the hole ceremony.

Iqbal Khan, said: “I am a proud son of Birmingham, born to Pakistani parents developing up in Small Heath. My parents traveled to include possibilities.

“During the show, I desired to discover issues of domestic and the way our expressions of where we're from resonate across the Commonwealth own family.

Developing this theme has also allowed us to tell the story of ways Birmingham has been enriched by means of its include of generations of Commonwealth groups, emerging as the colourful, multicultural metropolis that it is these days.

“The previous couple of years have reminded us all about how close we are to our households and buddies, but also how separated and isolated we will feel."

He introduced: “In this Opening Ceremony, we are bringing Birmingham to the arena.”
