The exit interview had almost ended last week once I asked Maria Sharapova if she would consider coaching in retirement.

Sharapova, standing tall as was common , doubled over with laughter.

Safe to mention that was a no.

She also closed the door on a comeback as a player albeit comebacks are a staple of women’s tennis.

“No,” she said. “I promise everyone.”

Kim Clijsters, a mother of three, recently returned to the tour at age 36 after quite seven years faraway from competition. Serena Williams, Sharapova’s kryptonite, is playing on in search of a record-tying 24th slam singles title at age 38, as she raises her 2-year-old daughter, Olympia.

Sharapova formally called its quits on Wednesday at 32, which seems young for somebody to retire during this tennis era, albeit Caroline Wozniacki left the sport at 29 in January.

“It’s tough to match everyone’s positions when it’s time,” Sharapova said. “I think everybody has very various things happening in their life, and that i think for ladies there’s also the conversation of family, which is clearly an enormous a part of Serena’s comeback after stepping faraway from the sport for a touch little bit of time. But i feel if there’s someone who can break records it’s her, and that i haven't any doubt that she will .”

Sharapova, who wants to possess children, said she had never envisioned playing after becoming a parent.

She said she “wouldn’t skills to try to to both” and would struggle to sacrifice time together with her children to “dedicate hours and hours on your body and on your strength and on the court.” She added: “Those are never the circumstances I wanted to possess a toddler around.”

Some people might take umbrage at that perspective, especially as many athletes strive for more work-life balance.
