ISIS 'COULD TARGET CHRISTMAS SHOPPERS', WARNS FALLON

Christmas shoppers could be targeted in a Paris-style terror massacre and Britain will be ‘less safe’ if we do not bomb Syria, the defence secretary has warned.

Setting out his case for air strikes, Michael Fallon said the Islamic State ‘death cult’ could ‘easily’ launch an attack in London, Manchester or Glasgow.
He said security forces were working ‘around the clock’ to foil attacks, but added: ‘We have seen threats to shopping centres in the past. What happened in Paris can easily happen in London.

‘There is a very direct threat to this country from letting IS continue unchecked.’ Mr Fallon went on to say that the UK was already a ‘top target’ for IS militants.

He warned: ‘They’re already plotting against this country. It is pretty dangerous not to act.’
Mr Fallon said the threat from IS was as ‘potent’ here as in Paris, and insisted that IS had to be dealt with forcefully.

Asked about the danger of RAF jets being shot down, he told the Sunday Telegraph: ‘There are always risks in war, but there is a greater risk from not doing something and leaving our streets vulnerable.’

His comments came as it emerged that the Ministry of Defence plans to send two Tornados and six Typhoons to RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus to double the number of warplanes already there.
