Introduction
This documentary tells the story of Canadians in Rabaa, in Cairo, Egypt, the square that witnessed a bloody massacre wherein the military and security forces stormed a peaceful sit-in of protesters on August 14th, 2013. Over 10,000 people were indefinitely detained, and over 800 men, women and children were murdered in cold blood.
As we interview witnesses, we experience the events through their eyes.
Though the Arab Spring is a great step towards a less corrupt Arab world, the Rabaa Massacre was a major set back for the fight of freedom, justice and democracy in Egypt.
The Rabaa Massacre is recognized by Human Rights Watch as the world’s largest single day killing of protesters in recent history. Despite this, it yet remains to be recognized by the International Community as a humanitarian catastrophe.

Survivors
Up till now, we identified witness in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Oakville, Mississauga, Waterloo, London, Montreal and Ottawa. Some interviewees chose to conceal their identity for safety concerns in Egypt. Some chose not to appear at all. We're trying as much as we can to get all the witnesses in Canada on board to build the full picture.
The Documentary
Our deadline for the campaign is August 31st, 2015, two weeks after the Rabaa Massacre memorial. We will continue shooting interviews up to mid September, leaving one month for post-production, marketing and PR, before our release date of October 15th, 2015.
Our well-prepared production plan includes reducing our production costs using several strategies, such as but not limited to:
- Renting the equipment from one place to get a discount on the total amount.
- Utilizing the day light as much as we can to reduce lighting costs.
- Starting very early in the morning to get the maximum number of interviews within the day.
