The fifth preliminary bout between Team Carwin and Team Nelson is held after tempers flare up in the house and training intensifies at the gym.

Yesterday afternoon the UFC held a media conference call to formally announce the coaches for the next season of The Ultimate Fighter, those being the current UFC® light heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones and top contender Chael Sonnen. Early in the call Dana would use his time to comment as to why the coaching choice had been made,  “Basically Jon Jones is out until April. He’s going to be sitting around for months anyway unable to fight. So it made sense for him to do The Ultimate Fighter. And everyone has been talking about this fight with Chael so it made sense for them to do TUF and then fight."
And while the choice of Jon Jones being selected due to his injury, was easily received by the press on the call, Dana would be further pressed as to why Chael had been choosen to coach opposite of Jones and not another light heavyweight contender, many of whom have expressed their displeasure in not being choosen.
“All the contenders who are pissed off they didn’t get the title shot are the same guys who I called, offered them the fight with Jon Jones in September, and they turned it down”,  Dana would comment.” I don’t want to hear any bitching from them. Chael was the only guy who stepped up and wants to fight Jon Jones. Chael wants this fight, the fans want this fight and we give the fans the fights they want to see. Chael Sonnen is the only guy who stepped up and wanted to fight.”
During his time on the call Jon Jones would first go on to explain why he took the fight with Chael after having original rejected him as a replacement fight at UFC 151 after Dan Henderson had been injured.
