Our
2012 MLB playoffs picks continue on Monday night in St. Louis, where
the St. Louis Cardinals battle it out with the Washington Nationals.
Join us for our MLB predictions for what should be a remarkable Game 2
of the NLDS.
For seven innings, it really looked like the Cardinals were going to find their way to scratch out a 2-1 victory in spite of the fact that they only managed three hits for the entire game. They played with their heads attached, and they never seemed to lose their cool as the Nationals were on the mound, but in the eighth inning, the roles were reversed. St. Louis booted an error that ultimately led to two unearned runs crossing the plate, and that ended up being the decisive factor in a 3-2 loss.
That’s going to put all sorts of pressure on today’s pitcher, Jaime Garcia, who knows that he is going to be up against it in this one. Garcia was just a 3-6 pitcher coming into the month of September, but he has rallied, finishing up the year with a 4-1 mark and a 2.50 ERA in the final month of the regular season (plus one day into October). Garcia will go up against yet another of the young pitchers that the Nats have to offer, Jordan Zimmerman, who had a sub-3.00 ERA to go with his 12-8 record for the campaign.
It’s really a bad time to back the Nationals, we would think. Though we know that we would never, ever count out the Cardinals until they were truly mathematically eliminated, they really have to have this game, as winning three straight at Nationals Park just doesn’t seem like it is going to happen. Both Garcia and Zimmerman are hot, but we still think that in the end, the deeper we get into these playoffs, the more likely that we see Washington show some cracks of a young team that is just clawing to succeed.
