MLB Playoff: Game 3: Tigers at Athletics Live 10-9-2012

Channel | TBS
Detroit at Oakland in Game 3 of an AL Division Series.

The Detroit Tigers look to close out their series and head to the ALCS as they face off against the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday in Oakland.
The Detroit Tigers swept the first two games of their ALDS against Oakland and are now a win away from being a seven game series from making it to the World Series. On Sunday Miguel Cabrera had three hits and Omar Infante and Jhonny Peralta each had two hits as the Tigers scored five runs on 11 hits. Starter Doug Fister allowed six hits and two runs while striking out eight over 7.0 innings but Joaquin Benoit blew the save and Al Alburquerque got the win. For Tuesday’s game Detroit starts Anibal Sanchez who hasn’t had a lot of success in Detroit since being traded from the Marlins but who came up big in the season’s final weeks. Since moving to Detroit Sanchez has allowed 81 hits and 31 earned runs while striking out 110 over 121 innings of work for a 3.74 ERA.
The Oakland Athletics have had their backs to the wall most of the season so being a game away from elimination is nothing new to them. On Sunday Josh Reddick hit a home run and Yoenis Cespedes and Chad Pennington each had two hits as they scored four runs on nine hits. On the mound Tommy Milone allowed five hits and a run while striking out six over six innings to not factor in the decision as Grant Balfour took the loss. For Tuesday’s game Oakland starts Brett Anderson who lost his last two starts and hasn’t pitched since being injured in mid-September. For the year Anderson has allowed 29 hits and 10 earned runs while striking out 25 over 35 innings of work for a 2.57 ERA.
Detroit is 5-1 I their last six divisional playoff games, 4-1 in their last five games against a team with a winning record, and 0-4 in Sanchez’s last four starts against a team with a winning record. Oakland is 5-1 in their last six home games against a team with a winning record, 39-15 in their last 54 home games, and 1-5 in Anderson’s last six home starts against a team with a winning record. Detroit has won five of the last six meetings of these two.
I expect we see some offense in this one and with the total set at seven I look for it to go over the total. My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as makingthe pick available for individual purchase.
